New Jefferson County Master Gardener Loving Her Neighborhood

MG Velvet is a newly certified Jefferson County Master Gardener. This busy lady also runs Sacred Earth Community Garden located in her Shawnee neighborhood. Sacred Earth Community Garden’s focus is to provide a therapeutic greenspace for at-risk youth aged 16-24 who are paid a wage to work with their hands growing fresh, healthy produce for the food desert community.

MG Velvet and her youth are the first recipients of the “Love Your Block” program from the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN). This initiative is to clean and reimagine alleys in the Shawnee area of Louisville, Ky. Sacred Earth’s alley was the first alley to be transformed through this program.
