The Jefferson County (Kentucky) Master Gardener Association is a group of people with a passion for gardens, things garden-related, and community service.
Members plant and maintain gardens that provide a common good, and educate the public with the support of the UK Department of Agriculture Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Office.
Members work on a variety of hands-on gardening projects, teach at public events, and receive continuing education through classes and meetings.
Members
Our membership consists of Active, Sustaining, and Intern master gardeners.
Active members have successfully completed the Kentucky Master Gardener classroom training. Active members provide volunteer service each year that satisfies ongoing certification requirements. Active members must pay annual dues. Active members shall determine all matters including but not limited to elections brought before the Membership, may vote on issues of concern to JCMGA, and may serve as officers and/or committee chairs.
Sustaining members are limited to those persons who have successfully completed the initial Kentucky MG classroom training and have returned the initial volunteer hours required for certification, but who are currently unable to return the minimum volunteer hours required to maintain certification due to reasons beyond their control. (examples: illness or injury) A sustaining member must work with JCMGA to maximize his or her volunteer hours through participation in JCMGA approved volunteer projects and educational opportunities, and must pay annual dues. Sustaining members also must show commitment to the mission of JCMGA by attending as many JCMGA monthly meetings as possible. Sustaining members are eligible to vote. A sustaining member may serve on any standing or ad hoc committee of JCMGA and will become eligible to serve as an officer or a chair of a committee at such time as he or she achieves active membership status.
Intern members have completed the initial Kentucky Master Gardener classroom training and are returning the volunteer hours required for initial certification. Intern members may participate on committees. An intern member may attend JCMGA monthly meetings and may participate in JCMGA approved volunteer projects. Intern members do not have voting rights and pay no annual dues until they have completed MG certification requirements.
