Spring is Coming! Do you 'Need' a Witch hazel shrub?

With the long, snowy winter we have had, it has been a welcome relief to see the beginnings of Spring popping up around town in the form of lenten roses, crocuses, and winter aconite. In 2021, MG Martha shared with us her lovely Witch hazel in full bloom. It’s that time of year again, so click below to watch the Youtube video we recorded a few years ago.

There is a native variety (Hamamelis virginiana) that blooms in late Fall but the ones blooming now are probably Chinese or Japanese species or crosses between the two. The bloom colors range from yellow to orange to reddish. A lovely reminder that Spring is coming!
